A brief, tested

Six beliefs about car owners, counted against 23 years of their posts

A Vietnamese car insurer briefed us on what it believes about car owners. We counted six of those beliefs on 2026-10-15 over 76,236 insurance posts written by car owners (sellers and ads removed).

4 of 6 did not hold

Three are wrong and one says something else. The other two are barely mentioned, with too little talk to call them wrong, so none of the six holds.

What the brief believedWhat people wroteResult
1Car owners want a paper certificate17posts in 23 years link a paper policy to police stops. Some car owners say digital is safer, because paper ones get faked. How sure we are: fairly; only 17 posts.Says something else
2Car owners ignore reminder calls, fearing scams0 of 12scam-word posts were about calls. Calls do fail, but whether a car owner picks up depends on how their last claim went (47 posts). How sure we are: fairly; nobody says it, but we cannot see other platforms.Wrong
3Car owners do not want to renew1,194posts about renewing; 21 about forgetting. The expiry date starts the shopping; a bad claim or a price jump ends it.How sure we are: fairly; every sample agreed.Wrong
4Buying the policy means heavy paperwork764posts complain about paperwork at the claim, 248 at purchase. Car owners pick the insurer their repair shop works with: 738 posts. How sure we are: fairly; two word searches, plus reading.Wrong
5Car owners value points, bundles, roadside help3roadside posts in 2022-2026. In 10 posts read, 0 value points. How sure we are: sure nobody mentions it; not sure what they do.Barely mentioned
6Car owners buy insurance in the company's toll-payment app31posts by car owners mention it, all years. People who buy in the app may never post on a forum. How sure we are: not very; 31 posts, and app buyers may not post here.Barely mentioned

Six things we remember verbatim from Tasco Insurance's October 2026 briefing on Luma, not all of its beliefs, used as a baseline to check.

Wrong = the posts say the opposite. Says something else = few posts, and they say something else. Barely mentioned = too little talk to judge. Holds = the posts agree.

Where the brief is right

Two pains car owners do write about

What the brief believedWhat people wroteResult
Car owners do not know what their insurance pays1.9% → 4.0%of insurance posts by car owners are confused about who pays under mandatory third-party insurance, from 2003-2012 to 2022-2026. The share is rising.Holds
Claims are a pain for car owners6.6 to 1negative to positive, among posts written while making a claim. Doubt about payment has not faded.Holds
Car owners cannot see claim progress0.5% → 0.3%of insurance posts by car owners complain about delay, from 2003-2012 to 2022-2026. The share is falling.Barely mentioned

The brief put the last two as one claim: claims run through a hotline and car owners cannot see progress. We split it, because the posts answer each half differently.

What car owners raise instead

Three needs the brief does not name

  • The repair shop picks the insurer. Advice from friends fell from 3.8% (2003-2012) to 1.3% (2022-2026) of insurance posts by car owners. The repair shop is named 5,826 times.
  • Year two is the first real purchase. Insurance given with a new car by the car dealer rose to 11.6% of insurance posts by car owners (2022-2026). The price jump lands at the first renewal.
  • Car owners cannot tell if a price is fair. There is no public price list, so they post their rates for each other: 613 posts.
“Insurance here buys peace of mind. Buying is easy and claiming is hard.”
